The Family Division of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador has comprehensive jurisdiction for both federal and provincial family law within designated geographical boundaries (certain areas on the East and West coast of the island of Newfoundland). This means that in those areas, all family law cases are dealt with in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, Family Division. In the remainder of the Province, jurisdiction is divided between the Provincial Court and the Supreme Court, Trial Division (General Division).
