Resolution Services is a group of programs offered by Alberta Justice and Solicitor General to provide information and assistance to people wanting to resolve common family law issues or access the courts.

Resolution Services provides general information about:

  • Family Law issues including: parenting, contact, guardianship, custody, access, child support, spousal support, property division, and protection orders;
  • the Federal Child Support Guidelines and the Alberta Child Support Guidelines;
  • the process and documents required to make a court application to obtain or change a court Order in Alberta in various family law matters;
  • the process and documents required to respond to a family law application in Alberta;
  • the process and documentation required to obtain an interjurisdictional variation of a child support order granted under provincial or federal legislation or foreign law;
  • the community and legal resources available for those with family law disputes.

  • The Court of Queen's Bench, Court Procedures Booklets are a series of plain language family court booklets to enable parties to better understand and access the court for applications dealing with custody, access, child support or spousal support under the Divorce Act.
  • Court Procedure Booklets are also available for other applications including, but not limited to, applications for Restraining Orders or Protection Orders. Information about types of orders;
    • Emergency Protection Order application form
    • Queen’s Bench Protection Order application form

  • The Family Law Act Kits are a series of plain language kits which include forms and instructions to make applications for parenting, guardianship, contact, enforcement of time with a child, child support, spousal support and other applications under the Family Law Act in Alberta.
  • For those who wish to represent themselves, the booklets and kits provide not only general information, but also step by step instructions and precedents.
