Elder Abuse On-line Quiz

Question 7

False – Some people search recycling bins before they are emptied to find personal information, like account numbers, social insurance numbers or birthdates. They can use the information to make purchases in your name. Or, they might sell your personal information to other con artists. You should always shred or destroy all paperwork with personal information, including:

  • bank statements;
  • credit card applications (even if you don’t fill them in);
  • unused convenience cheques sent to you by your credit card issuer;
  • utility bills; and
  • credit card or purchase receipts.

Fraud is a crime. It could happen to anyone. Stay informed.
