Message from Minister Lametti
Helping Each Other and Canadians
I wanted to take this opportunity to check in with all of you, and to thank you for your exceptional work during these exceptional times. The last few weeks, as we have faced the impacts of COVID-19, have been challenging for all of us, including our families, our neighbours and our country. As a nation, we have had to respond quickly and decisively to ensure the health and safety of Canadians. Behind every one of those decisions is advice from this department. I am so proud of your ongoing commitment to support your teams, other government departments, Cabinet, and all Canadians as we work together to flatten the curve and support the most vulnerable, our economy, and most importantly, our frontline healthcare workers.
Many of us are working behind the scenes and around the clock to support government actions to combat COVID-19. I have seen your willingness to adapt in the face of new challenges, operating in a new environment almost overnight, while at the same time rearranging many aspects of your lives. It hasn’t been easy, but we have already accomplished great things — hard things — that are making a difference to the people we serve.
I know that many Justice employees are putting in long hours on government orders, regulations and legislation. Many others are ensuring that the core operations of this department are maintained. I thank you for that, and for your patience during this time. I also know that across the department, from coast to coast to coast, we are supporting each other, finding innovative ways to connect, talking about mental health, and keeping each other informed and connected. As the Deputies wrote in their recent email, we are a team, no matter the distance between us.
It remains my great privilege to be the Minister of this department, and I continue to be impressed by the spirit of teamwork and collaboration displayed by employees each and every day. We all hear and read the news and listen to experts, and I want to remind all of you to take care of yourselves, listen to public health guidance and have hope. This crisis is touching all of our lives, some very personally. There is no question that we will all be changed by this experience. However, if your dedication and professionalism are any indication of how things will turn out, we are going to be okay.
Again, thank you for your hard work and support. Be well.
The Honourable David Lametti, P.C., Q.C., M.P.
Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada
