NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, June 1, 2012 – The Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Rosalie McGrath, a lawyer with Ottenheimer Baker in St. John’s, is appointed a Judge of the Trial Division of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador, to replace Mr. Justice J.D. Cook (St. John’s), who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of May 21, 2012.
Madam Justice McGrath received a Bachelor of Arts (French and Mathematics) from Memorial University in 1990 and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University in 1993.
She was admitted to the Bar of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1994.
Madam Justice McGrath has been a partner at Ottenheimer since 2001 and had been an associate at White, Ottenheimer & Baker from 1994 to 2001. Her main areas of practice were corporate and commercial law, energy law, real estate and wills and estates.
Madam Justice McGrath has been a member of the management committee of Ottenheimer Baker since 2004. She was a member of the Canadian Bar Association and Canadian Energy Law Foundation. She was a sessional lecturer at Memorial University from 2002 to 2008 and a member of the Disciplinary Panel of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador. She is an active volunteer for numerous charitable organizations.
This appointment is effective immediately.
