Appendix 3: Road Map for Newsletter Project

Goal

Improve the responsiveness of the legal system to abuse of individuals with disabilities.

Objective

  • Increase public awareness of legal issues related to abuse of individuals with disabilities.
  • Increase service providers' awareness of legal issues related to abuse of individuals with disabilities.
  • Increase public awareness of services available for individuals with disabilities who have been abused.
  • Increase service providers' awareness of services available for individuals with disabilities who have been abused.

Research & Development

Activities:

  • Consult with service providers and advocates in 25 (minimum) organizations across B.C. to identify key issues and information needs.
  • Research and write six legal information articles on key issues in newsletter format
  • Publish newsletter.

Target Groups:

  • B.C. service providers and advocates including those affiliated with:
    • Community mental health agencies
    • Mental health associations
    • Women's, senior's and youth centres
    • Multicultural organizations
    • Aboriginal organizations
  • Individuals with disabilities
  • Members of the B.C. legal community including:
    • Crown prosecutors
    • Lawyers
    • Advocates

Outputs:

  • Consultation report
  • 10,000 copies of newsletter

Promotion & Dissemination:

Activities:

  • Send consultation report to project partners and consultation participants.
  • Prepare an up-to-date mailing list of non-profit sector organizations and associations associated with physical and mental disabilities, multicultural organizations and Aboriginal organizations.
  • Distribute newsletter to all individuals & organizations on mailing list.
