Figure 12: Perceptions of youth sentences within the youth justice system. This is a stacked horizontal bar chart that illustrates perceptions of youth sentences within the youth justice system. The Y-axis is divided into 2 categories. The Y-axis lists the following categories from top to bottom:
- do you think that the three-year maximum for sentences in the youth system should be longer, unchanged or shorter;
- and do you think youth sentences are normally longer, shorter or the same as adult sentences.
Among respondents perceptions about youth sentences were distributed as follows:
- do you think that the three-year maximum for sentences in the youth system should be longer, unchanged or shorter – longer 58%, the same 37%, shorter 5%;
- and do you think youth sentences are normally longer, shorter or the same as adult sentences – longer 3%, the same 10%, shorter 86%.
