Figure 4.4 presents the number and percentage of cases for each income level that had special or extraordinary expenses awarded. There was a strong tendency for the proportion of cases with special or extraordinary expenses awarded to increase as income level increased. At the lowest income level, only 13.2 percent of cases had special expenses awarded; this increased to 46 percent in the middle income range ($45,000–$59,999) and to 56.9 percent at the highest income level.
