About us

The Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Office is the focal point for the application of the Access to Information Act and Privacy Act at the Department of Justice Canada. It reports to the Chief Information Officer, Information Solutions Branch, and is headed by a departmental ATIP Coordinator. It includes its own legal counsel, ATIP advisors and administrative support personnel.

The Office deals directly with the public in connection with ATIP requests. Together with other responsibility centres, it is also involved in policy matters related to the implementation of both Acts within the Department and serves as its centre of ATIP expertise in enabling it to meet its statutory obligations under both Acts.
