ONTARIO JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT ANNOUNCED
OTTAWA, April 11, 2014 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Central Nova, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
The Honourable Kevin B. Phillips, a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice, is appointed a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Ottawa) to replace Mr. Justice M. J. Quigley, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of May 24, 2013, and whose position has been transferred to Ottawa.
Mr. Justice Phillips was appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice in August 2013. Prior to that, he had served as Assistant Crown Attorney in the Office of the Attorney General in Ottawa from 1999 to 2013. In addition to his practice in criminal law, he has focused on mental health issues and Internet crimes.
Mr. Justice Phillips was a founding member of the Ottawa Mental Health Court Committee. He was a board member of the Canadian Mental Health Association and a member of the board of trustees of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group. He has served as an instructor of the Bar Admission Course and has been a frequent speaker and lecturer.
This appointment is effective immediately.
