The Use of Custody under the Youth Criminal Justice Act

Figure 7 shows the rate (per 10,000 of the youth population aged 12-17) of custody sentences for offences of three levels of severity, from 1991/2 to 2003/04.

Very minor offences = theft under, possession of stolen property, failure to comply/appear, YOA/YCJA Somewhat minor offence = other thefts, mischief/damage, break and enter, minor assault
