Public Perception of Crime and Justice in Canada: A Review of Opinion Polls

Figure 1 is a vertical bar chart which compares respondents’ concern for community crime for the years 1990, 1994 and 1998.

The x axis represents the year in which the survey was administered, and is divided into 3 categories: 1990, 1994 and 1998. Each category is further divided into 2 sub-categories: “very” and “somewhat”.

The y axis is measured in percentages, ranging from 0 to 50, in increments of 10.

In 1990, 30% of respondents viewed crime as somewhat important and 45% of respondents viewed crime as very important. In 1994, 33% of respondents viewed crime as somewhat important and 42% of respondents viewed crime as very important. In 1998, 38% of respondents viewed crime as somewhat important and 30% of respondents viewed crime as very important.
