Predicting Crime: The review of Research
Figure 1. Conceptual framework for integrated policy research into the future impact of crime.
Figure 1 illustrates a conceptual framework for integrated policy research into the future impact of crime. This diagram is formed by 6 boxes, with arrows relating them to one another. The first box at the top represents the “quantitative estimates of criminal incidents (UCR and victim surveys)”. Two arrows from this box link to 2 separate boxes below the one at the top. On the left the box represents “quantitative estimates of the current impact of crime on Canadian society” and on the right the box represents the “historical and contemporary crime trend analysis”. The box on the right is linked to another box below it, which represents “crime predictions”. The arrow from the box on the left and the box on the right link to a single same box below them, which represents “predictions on the future scope and impact of crime on Canadian society”. Below this is another arrow linking to the last single box of the figure, which represents “developing policies and programs to anticipate and minimize the impact of future crime trends and patterns”.
