Figure 6.3 This is a map of Ottawa showing the boundaries of census dissemination areas. The shaded areas are those with high major property crime rates in 2001. The crimes include breaking and entering, and theft of expensive items such as motor vehicles. The downtown areas had high major property crimes but some suburban areas too.

The map shows census dissemination areas for areas in which there is an elevated risk of major property offences (0.2 to 0.4 SD), a high risk of major property offences (0.4 to 1 SD), and the highest risk of major property offences (above 1 SD). Areas of an elevated risk of major property offences are represented by a light green, areas of a high risk of major property offences are represented by a medium green, and areas of the highest risk of major property offences are represented by a dark green.

The map demonstrates that the areas with the highest risk of major property offences are dispersed in the city, and include suburban and rural areas. Areas with an elevated risk of major property offences are mainly dispersed within the city.
